Actually, you don't need to format and lose everything. I just installed the upgrade version, so I still have all my files and everything. The install is quite painless actually, and only takes about an hour. I really like every aspect of Vista, other than the fact that I can't use LFS
<edit>BTW, if it means anything, I have the 32 bit version of Vista, if that means anything with the encryption<edit>
That's the first thing I thought of too, but the firewall was never enabled, because I didn't have it enabled in XP. I just confirmed that it was indeed off, this is no fun...
Hey all, I just installed the latest Beta of Windows Vista from the "Microsoft Student Beta Experience Program" lol. It looks pretty cool so far, but I've got one huge problem. I can't unlock LFS. It just comes up and says "Unlocking Error" whenever I try to unlock. I'm sure I'm entering the information correctly, but it won't unlock. Should I just go back to Windows XP, or is there something I'm doing wrong?
I would say that's an emphatic no. I just went for a couple laps around AS historic in the LX6 with the FF turned off on my DFP, it feels totally different. I'm so used to being able to tell how much grip I have front and rear through the FF, that it's really weird not having it. Also, the behavior in slides and spins is totally different. When you spin with FF on, the sim tells the wheel it should be slamming lock to lock, and it's your job to try and hold the wheel the way you want. With FF off, the wheel should still be trying to turn, but to the physics model, it's as if an infinitely strong person is holding the wheel straight ahead, it makes things look pretty odd. I also find it very hard to hold out slides when I really have no idea what the car is doing.
Jeez, how loud can one car going around the track be? If they stop filming Top Gear there, they should turn it back into an airfield, I'm sure that would be much quieter...
If your talking about the color of the numbers and needles, that's just a setting within LFS, I don't have it installed on this computer (don't have my external drive, and this is my laptop) but I think it's under either player or Misc.
Are you kidding????? F1 cars backfire whenever they lift off the throttle! Sure, flames don't shoot out the exhaust pipe, but you can definately hear it. I was at the USGP, and we sat at the end of the back straight, hearing the cars backfire under braking was very cool. The BMWs backfired the most, and the Honda's the least, but they all did it.
I was a demo racer for a long time, simply because I was young, had no job, and no money. At the time I didn't have my driver's license either, so I had no way to get to a job. Sure, people will say I could have walked to a job, gotten a paper route, etc. etc. Out here, the nearest store is a 25 minute walk and all the paper routes are done in cars. I'm not complaining though, I played the demo, never tried to crack it, never whined that I couldn't get it for free, but if you look at the transaction record on my checking account, the very first purchase is LFS
Anyway, I'm very grateful that the demo is not time limited, because I doubt I would have bought LFS then, I'd probably still be playing Racer....
The GPL manual and strategy guide were very good, I spent a long long time reading those. another one I thought was good was, if I recall, called "Concepts of Performance Driving" by Jackie Stewart, but that one covered a lot more of the off track aspects of being a racing driver, P.R. and such. However, I found it very entertaining.
What I don't understand is why you need to use a button clutch. Surely it can't make you any faster, unless you've changed your clutch rate to unrealisticly high. Why not just use auto clutch, throttle cut, and throttle blip. Oh, and by the way, when I used to use my joystick, I cut the throttle myself
I think it sounds like a great idea. I personally have no trouble setting up controls, but it would make the sim much more approchable for a sim newbie. Anything that helps a user get started in that all important first impression of the demo is a good thing.
I agree 100%!!! However, that would mean *HORROR* that there are many many George Bush's out there. And that would be a very very bad thing
<edit>Before I get flamed, yes, I am an American, and no, I'm not anti-America. However, I am anti Bush, as are the majority of Americans. His approval rating is the lowest of any president in history. As with the MAJORITY of Americans, I did not vote for him, he won by a minority vote, the first time in many years that a president has.
Sorry to drag politics into this thread, but I'm sick of all Americans being percieved as mindless sheep following our lovely president. </edit>
It's not that slow, my 2.8 P4 runs LFS just fine, 60-100 FPS most of the time. I have an ATi Radeon 9550, by the way, it was really cheap and runs LFS just fine, you'll be screwed with newer games though.
